Although the American College Board announced as early as 15 years ago that the SAT is not an "Academic Proficiency Assessment Exam," this announcement does not change the fact that the SAT is the most important standardized test for admission to US universities. Regardless of whether the SAT score reflects the academic ability of the student, whether the SAT can predict the potential of the student's future study in the university, the SAT score largely determines whether the student can be admitted to a prestigious American university. This is true both in the past and in the present, regardless of whether Chinese students or American students, no matter how the admissions of American universities deny the importance of SAT in university applications, the importance of this is absolutely not to be ignored in the application of American elite schools! Therefore, the SAT is the first thing that should be prepared for students considering going to college in the United States.
????When my daughter was very young, I tried to find ways to make her interested in reading articles and books. A large amount of reading, covering a wide range of reading topics is the law of high scores. When my daughter first arrived in the United States in 1986, she was only 5 years old. After a few years of kindergarten and elementary school, I asked her to go to the SAT at the age of 10, in order to let her know the difficulty of reading the SAT early and give her a wake-up call. Let her have a number in her heart. After 10 years of grinding a sword, she was admitted to Harvard University in 1999. In the same year, my family hosted the first Chinese middle school student as a host family. In the following seven or eight years, my family has received more than 20 Chinese students. I have not only become their guardian but also their teacher. During those years, I directed them to copy word cards, recite words, learn SAT, and apply for college. In 2007, I returned to China to establish Yanding Meizhong Education Consulting Co., Ltd. and started a large-scale SAT training program. From the experience of SAT education and training for more than ten years, comparing the Chinese and American students preparing for the SAT, I realized that the basic education of students in China and the American students are fundamentally different. The biggest difference is that American students take the SAT. It is the accumulation of knowledge that is usually learned in school. There is only a small amount of training before the test, or even no exercise at all. Chinese students generally spend a lot of time doing pre-test study and training. During the months or even one or two years of study, through long-term repeated training and practice, the scores are greatly improved. In fact, not only the researchers and educators who are so enchanted by me are overly sensitive and "worship" to the university rankings of the "New China Weekly". Many American university official managers are more neurotic. In October 1997, I was in the office of the Admissions Dean of Amherst College. I just sat down and said nothing, the dean handed me a recently published "New American Weekly". She asked me "You know No? Amherst once again ranked first in the National College of Arts and Sciences this year! At noon, when I was with the 5 enrollment deans and directors of the public relations department of the 5th school, the admissions dean of Smith College also lost the opportunity to tell me that Smith College is the tenth in the National College of Arts and Sciences. At the beginning of 2008, William Walker, Vice President of Strategic Communications and Foreign Relations at Rensselaer Polytechnic University, was sent to Yan Dingmei and accepted our video interview. At the beginning of the interview, he listed the school's ranking in the US University's comprehensive ranking of 44 US universities, 20 undergraduate programs, 8th in electronic media and multimedia, and 14th in nuclear engineering. data. It can be seen how much American college officials care about rankings. On the other hand, we can also see that some university officials have disregarded university rankings, and they have become angered. Some university presidents even have a disappointment to appeal on the official website of the university to put the list of universities in the US News Weekly. Forever thrown into the trash! In fact, it is no wonder that the rankings of the "New China Weekly" not only interfere with the independent management of the official universities in the United States, but sometimes even turn a university that has been very impressive in the past into a university that is not so good, even "Not good" university! Before I went to the United States in 1986, the impression of Purdue University was a very good American university that the media often promoted. So far, I still think that Purdue University is a very good university. Unfortunately, in the comprehensive ranking of the 2009 US-New Weekly, only ranked 66th. Indiana University

It is also a very good prestigious school and its ranking is 71st. This ranking makes many students mistakenly think that they are not good universities. In fact, Indiana University is a university with a good reputation. The school's music school is second to none. The undergraduate business school is very famous and ranks among the top 5 in the investment banking industry. Purdue University has a high academic reputation, and its engineering colleges are among the top 10, with very good physics and computer science. However, in the eyes of those who only look at the rankings and do not understand the situation, the image of the entire school is reduced and the reputation is defiled. This situation also occurs in many other universities.
????Since 1999, I have conducted hundreds of undergraduate study abroad courses in China. Among them, during the period from 2003 to the end of 2005, I only made about 50 lectures in New Oriental, which led to the wave of undergraduate study abroad. An older senior in the American undergraduate study counseling community. In recent years, students and parents have come to my office in Zhongguancun, Beijing. I have been asked: “How many points do I have (or my children) TOEFL scores, how many points on the SAT scores, and how many universities can I qualify for? "This kind of problem that seems very simple to many people often makes me unable to answer." Applying to an American university is not only unscientific, but also harmful when it is selected based on the university's comprehensive ranking.
????However, in the end, my daughter applied to the university more than 10 years ago, and is also the school that holds the "New China Weekly". Her school performance is very good, social activities are rich, the SAT is almost perfect, and the comprehensive conditions are very good. However, the universities she chose to apply for were not concentrated in the top of the rankings, except for Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Amherst, and Rice University and the University of Texas at Austin, which ranks more than 40. The difference is that she has sufficient reasons for each school she chooses, not only to ensure the admission of the rankings, but also to take into account the specific characteristics of each university and their future goals. For example, the reason for applying to the University of Texas at Austin is that the school has a nationally renowned honor program called the “Second Plan,” a small class education program with elites and brilliant graduates. Many students enter after graduation. Famous law, medical, business school. In the beginning of 2011, the New York Times reported a large amount of space in which Chinese students were arrogant and self-proclaimed in the application materials sent to American universities. Perhaps the way Chinese students praise themselves is very different from the Americans' ideas, making them so incredible that they forget that they must keep privacy for these young students. The New York Times sent the students to the university's beautifully printed, colorful "growth handbook" of their photos posted on the New York Times online, and called the "Bag Book."
????Understanding the American way of thinking and expression, in the application of the article can not only reflect their own excellence, but also to the Westerners to accept, is a big lesson that students who grow up in impetuous education must do well.
